You know those construction workers who are ever obsessed with their work and making them use their leave days is like punishing them? Yeah, Wamaku is one of them. He says he doesn't need the days and that if he needs to see his family, mamaa and the kids will always come over. The project manager however decided that this year people will be working shifts during the Christmas holiday unike last year when every section worked in full. So Wamaku had to leave someone else in charge for the first two weeks of December and work the last two. It was either one or the other and he had to pick the days with the most overtime. Brilliant, right?
Anyway, from the pictures on his statuses, he has been enjoying Mbezi beach. Although he takes the kind of photos that only 50+ year olds take. Or -4 year olds. Wait, now that I think about it, my 3 year old cousin takes better pictures. In his pictures, it looks he is trying to look like he is not taking the pictures while taking the pictures so there's so much head room the the clear clue Daresalaam skies take up most of it. But we like the skies anyway so it's a win-win.Back here at the campsite maskani, despite not being here, he is still a topic of discussion. Juma, the guy holding his place recently bought a smartphone so he is the one who updates most (if not all) people about Wamaku's whereabouts. The foreman posts a loooot. Frankly I think he should tone it down a little but hey, that's just me speaking on behalf of people who have nothing interesting to post.

So yesterday his status update captured his wife and the kid looking all pretty and relaxed. Kinda like the beach makes people feel. Or should make people feel. However, the foreman himself was looking rather different. You know the "you can take a person out of the village but you cannot take the village out of a person" phrase? He played it well in his official-ish shirt, khaki trousers, black goggles kinda like the ones for welding and get this, his safety boots. In one picture he was wearing them and in the other he was carrying them. Not that there is anything wrong with safety boots but they are definately not for the beach. The laughter at the maskani tells it all.
