Now, you all remember how Wawire’s stomach did him a while back? He had healed from that until he stepped on an insect. Most people are not aware of this but in some areas of Tanzania, there is this insect that nobody knows the name but when you step on it you forget home. Literally. Most people just call it dudu. A few years back when I was doing my undergraduate, I came across an article about insect having feelings and I was shocked by the fact that scientists had evidence and studies that indicated that they actually do. But this story isn't about insects and their feelings, is it?
Two days ago Wawire forgot his home. He was walking from the site when all of a sudden he lost his kinesthesia senses and started walking around like someone who is lost. No, a zombie. Or just a thing. People who saw him thought he was on his usual 'things.' Or that he had eaten something free somewhere and had been rogwad. Well, all of that wasn't the case. He had actually stepped on the dudu by accident.
Elders say that when you step on it, you lose your proprioception senses or better yet, you just keep walking until someone speaks to you and guides you back home. Now, I am using elders because I have spent over 24 hours researching the internet to find out what scientists think about this allegation against insects. If any of mjengo stories readers comes across it, kindly share. Apparently, you will be asked where you're going and you'll keep saying "home" while you're headed to an entirely different direction. If someone is lucky, you will meet with someone who recognizes you and they will
Now the problem isn't stepping on the insect or losing memory of your home, the problem came when it came to guiding Wawire home. Being the hard-headed lad that he is, it took more than fully grown men to bring his senses back but they did. That is after tying him and carrying him home like a prisoner. He has no recollection of the whole thing but when he came to, he wanted to know why people were in his house and why he was tied. Nobody had the heart to tell him because he would dispute it. All of it.
Ya mjengo ni mengi aisee!
